Senegal: President Macky Sall faces backlash over rhetorics on election postponement

Reactions continue to trail President Macky Sall’s position on the delayed elections citing conflict between the legislature and judiciary arm of government.

He assured of handing over to an elected president while securing a peaceful and stable Senegal during an interview with the AP news agency.

However, his statement in which he denies allegations of initiating an institutional coup is disappointing to many Senegalese particularly following the widespread violence since the postponement.

The resurgence of violence on Friday would claim the life of a student in Saint Louis, a major city in the country’s north.

However, President Sall may be running his last lap of constitutional engineering as political and governance experts familiar with the system count on the Judiciary to make history.
