The candidacy file of Senegal’s main opposition politician, Ousmane Sonko has been submitted to the Constitutional Council.

Ayib Daffé, his representative, was able to do this for him out of sight.

The imprisoned Senegalese opposition figure and his team put together the file despite the refusal of the Directorate General of Elections to issue them the sponsorship forms.

In a few hours’ time, the deadline for submitting candidatures to the Constitutional Council will have passed.

Ousmane Sonko’s removal from the electoral roll by the Ministry of the Interior was recently overturned by the Dakar high court.

The State’s lawyers have announced that they will appeal against this ruling.
