El Malick Ndiaye has been elected President of Senegal’s National Assembly, securing 134 out of 165 votes during Monday’s inaugural session of the 15th legislature.

Despite objections about his prior ministerial role, Ndiaye’s election reflects the ruling PASTEF party’s majority in Parliament. The transport expert and PASTEF member since 2015 brings experience and leadership to the legislative body.
