Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have announced their decision to exit the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS with immediate effect.
The three countries, which are founding members of the sub-regional body, cite among others inhumane sanctions and departure of the body from its tenets for its decision to quit the group.
Meanhwhile ECOWAS says it has not been officially notified of the decision as it expressed its readiness for a negotiated solution to the political impasse
