The first edition of the regional training meeting for Francophone online media journalists in West Africa is underway in Abidjan, the economic capital of Cote d’Ivoire. This is one of the key events of the 75th-anniversary celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It comes as a prelude to the World Day of Freedom of Expression.
The exercise results from a collaboration between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the regional office for West Africa, the UN agencies UNESCO, UN Women, and the Ivorian partners.
About forty participants from Burkina Faso, Benin, Guinea, Mali, Togo, and Senegal are participating. 20 reporters from Côte d’Ivoire and 11 regional journalists.
The theme of this training: “journalism and human rights” is topical, according to Lassina Serme, President of the regional meeting journalism and human rights.
