Niger has accepted Algeria’s proposal for a mediation role to restore constitutional rule in the country after the coup two months ago.
This was announced on Monday by the Algerian government through its ministry of foreign affairs
Recall Algiers had declared its intention to resolve the political crisis in Niamey and recommended a six-month transition period.
The proposal also came on the backdrop of a mini-tour of West Africa by the Algerian head of foreign diplomacy – Ahmed Attaf.
While this is welcoming, questions such as the feasibility of the transition period by the CNSP remain.
