An International Medical Charity – Médecins Sans Frontiers MSF has said the rising violence in Nigeria’s northwestern state of Zamfara is stoking a humanitarian crisis.
In a statement released on Thursday, MSF said it had already treated ten thousand three hundred children in Zamfara between January and April for severe acute malnutrition, measles, malaria and other conditions.
The region which has struggled with decades-long communal clashes over resources is now challenged with more violence as criminals loot, steal and kidnap for ransom.
MSF said the situation has forced migration of residents from affected communities to areas where aid groups are stressed as aid response is hampered.
