The Nigerian University Staff Unions have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.
The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to pay outstanding salaries or face an indefinite strike.
In a joint statement, SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Prince Peters Adeyemi said the unions’ patience has worn thin.
A 10-day grace period expired on July 26, and the fresh ultimatum began on September 17.
The unions demand payment of four months’ withheld salaries, improved remuneration, earned allowances, and implementation of the 2009 agreement.
The government is yet to respond to the latest threat by the workers.
