Police in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria has deployed patrol teams to Zurak, a mining community in WASE local government area of the state where bandits killed several people.
The gunmen in their number arrived at the village on motorcycles around 5pm and started shooting sporadically.
The Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Wase, Hamisu Anani told local media that the bandits were escaping from operations by a combined team of security forces last month which pushed them towards the community.
But residents deny this account, arguing that the gunmen attacked these border communities because they failed to pay their usual tax.
