Governor of the Northcentral State of Niger, Umaru Bago, has declared a state of emergency on insecurity in Minna, the state capital, following a resurgence of thugs’ operations that resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries.

He ordered security officers to shoot criminals on sight and announced zero tolerance for insecurity and thuggery.

The governor emphasized closing artisanal mining sites linked to the violence.

This emergency declaration comes after violent incidents, particularly from gangs disrupted the capital, prompting the suspension of traditional events such as the Sallah Durba festival.

However, ISAH SAIDU KOROKA, a security analyst in the State says the State government must go beyond declaring a State of Emergency on Insecurity.
