One person has been reported dead and 30 others trapped in a collapsed gold mine in Niger state, Nigeria.

The state emergency management agency in a statement on Tuesday said six miners were rescued from the pit with serious injuries.

The spokesperson for the agency Hussaini Ibrahim, clarified that the incident, at the underground gold mine, occurred on Monday after heavy rains softened the soil around the pit, triggering the collapse.
