The Nigerian government is responding to surging food costs and double-digit inflation by proposing the establishment of a national commodity board.

This board is intended to regulate the prices of grains and other commodities, particularly as smallholder farmers play a dominant role in production across the country.

WADR’s Usman Umar in Abuja reports that Nigeria is currently facing a food crisis, with prices reaching a nearly three-decade high of 28.92% annual inflation in December.
