A coup has taken place in the Republic of Niger. The situation across the country remains very fluid with air and land borders closed and a curfew imposed until further notice.
The international community including the United Nations, European Union, African Union, France and the United States have condemned the overthrow.
ECOWAS which was the first to denounce the action, had Wednesday deployed a mission to mediate on the matter with no results in sight.
Thousands of young protesters also took to the streets of the Nigerien capital and roads near the presidential palace to denounce the putsch.
