Niger: President Bazoum’s immunity hearing adjourned till Monday

The hearing in the trial concerning the lifting of President Mohamed Bazoum’s immunity has been suspended. 

The case is being heard by the State Court, the country’s highest court.

The deposed president’s lawyers left the courtroom on Friday after several of their requests were rejected.

Among other things, the defence had requested direct contact with the deposed president, Mohamed Bazoum, and his provisional release.

Mohamed Bazoum’s lawyers denounce a biased trial.

Coulibaly, one of the ex-president’s lawyers, has been speaking to our correspondent in Niamey, Mourtala Zoubeirou.


The case has been adjourned until next Friday.

However, If deposed president Mohamed Bazoum’s immunity is lifted, he could be prosecuted by the ruling military for high treason, conspiracy to undermine state security and apology for terrorism.
