The German government restates its dedication to enhancing collaboration with the country.

During a working visit to Niamey, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in discussions with the Minister of National Defense Lieutenant General Salifou Mody, declared on Tuesday the continuation of Berlin’s military partnership with Niger.

This renewed commitment between Niger and Germany emerges shortly before the anticipated complete withdrawal, slated by year-end, of over a thousand French troops stationed in Niger, primarily for counter-terrorism efforts.

The dynamics between Paris and Niamey had become strained following the July 26 coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

International relations expert, Morgan Asogba has been speaking to WADR on this development.
