Here in Senegal, the F24 movement has announced an upcoming peaceful protest scheduled for this Friday in Dakar. This platform, which unites various political parties and civil society organizations, is advocating for the release of individuals termed “political detainees” and the organization of an inclusive presidential election.
Since its inception a few months ago, most F24 demonstrations have faced prohibition by the authorities, purportedly due to concerns about potential disruption to public order.
While the group awaits a response from state authorities concerning permission for the planned protest, Mamadou Thior, a Senegalese political analyst and Newslink contributor, has advised that granting authorization is crucial to prevent potential violent confrontations between the state police and the demonstrators.
