Let’s begin in Senegal as President Macky Sall late Monday visited the Caliph General of the Mourides.
President Sall reportedly had a long meeting behind closed doors with the Caliph General for reasons yet unknown but many believe it follows the violence that has engulfed the country in the last 6 days.
The meeting between the Head of State and the Khalif General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountaha Mbacké, which dominates the front page of major national dailies was in Touba.
The last state update on the deadly standoff between protesters and security operatives resulted in 16 deaths, the arrest of 500 people including minors and foreigners as well as the vandalism and looting of public and private buildings.
Moussa Diaw (Jaw), a Professor of political science at the Gaston Berger University, Saint Louis applauds President Sall’s courage and remains optimistic about the impact of this meeting on the present situation.
