The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) therapeutic feeding center has raised concerns about the rising number of malnourished children in Maiduguri, north-east Nigeria as the lean season approaches.
MSF’s latest report shows a worrying trend – the center admitted around 75 children per week in January of this year, but by early April, the number had doubled to nearly 150 per week.
This it said, is twice as many as the figures from a year ago, signaling a potentially disastrous situation if immediate action is not taken.
Tofik Abdul Nasir brings us details of the report.
