An active member of the pro-Transitional government movements, Mahamadi Sinon, has been apprehended over recent audio recordings suggesting that the national gendarmerie is not fully committed to the fight against terrorism.
The state prosecutor, Harouna Yoda, has charged Sinon with defamation and endangering the lives of others.
Sinon was previously handed a 24-month suspended prison sentence in February 2023 for publicly advocating the assassination of Alpha Barry, the former foreign minister, and Newton Barry, the former president of CENI.
As Oge Obierika reports, six other individuals, including representatives from civil society organizations, have also been arrested and are currently being held in custody.
