The defense team of former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz have criticized the nation’s justice system over what they described as rights violation in the ongoing trial of their client.

Recall the former president first appeared before a court alongside nine other former officials that served under his regime on

January 25, 2023 for alleged corruption, influence peddling and money laundering.

Last Monday, Abdel Aziz, responded to a few questions before the judge listed all the charges against him.

Lawyers of the former president, however say they will no longer attend the legal process until the case is presented before an appropriate court saying only a high court of justice is empowered to do so.

Taleb Kayar Mohamed Maouloud, one of the lawyers of Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz said their request is in accordance with the Constitution.
