Colonel Assimi Goïta has been promoted to the rank of army general, making him the highest-ranking officer in the Malian army as of today.

The other colonels with whom he carried out the coup in April 2022 have also been promoted to army corps generals.

This decision has sparked strong reactions among the Malian public opinion.
