The Malian authorities on Wednesday summoned the ambassador of Algeria to the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, in a statement, expressed Mali’s strong objection to recent actions by Algerian authorities purportedly related to Mali’s peace process.
Diop criticized Algeria for holding high-level meetings without informing or involving Malian authorities, especially with individuals hostile to Mali’s government and with factions opposing the peace agreement stemming from the Algiers process.
Diop emphasized that such actions risk harming bilateral relations and constitute interference in Mali’s internal affairs.
He urged Algeria to engage in direct consultations with Mali’s legitimate authorities.
They highlighted Mali’s historical ties with Algeria and its appeal for Algeria’s leadership in international mediation efforts for peace in Mali.
