Liberian President George Weah, is calling for calm following a controversial referendum and a senate by-election conducted on December 8.

In a special address to the Nation on Sunday, Weah said the elections represent a major victory for democracy in Liberia.

He said that the polls significantly enhanced the country’s democratic credentials and affirmed its support for the rule of law.
