The International Organization of la Francophonie says it will send a mission to Chad.
This follows violent anti-junta protests which kicked off in the country on Tuesday in the capital N'Djamena. Demonstrators are demanding a return to civilian rule after the military took power following the death of long-time leader Idriss Deby Itno last week.
Meanwhile, a provincial governor says fighting between the army and jihadists in the Lake Chad region on Tuesday left at least 12 Chadian soldiers dead.
