The spokesperson for the Ivorian government, Amadou Coulibaly, has reacted to the announcement of the closure of the Office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Abidjan.
In its strategic plan, the ICC plans to close its representation in Côte d’Ivoire in 2025. This is with a view to deploying itself in the fields of investigation throughout the world, to increase its technical capacities and improve the management of investigations and prosecutions.
Asked about this imminent closure of the ICC office in Côte d’Ivoire, on the sidelines of the Council of Ministers, Amadou Coulibaly, said he was pleased that, and I quote, “this shows that our national jurisdictions are working well and have therefore taken their place,” end of quote.
The ICC Office was established in Côte d’Ivoire with the agreement of the Ivorian government, following arrest warrants issued against personalities, including Laurent Gbagbo, in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the post-election crisis of 2010-2011.
