Several civil society organizations and political parties in Cote d’Ivoire are urgently calling for reforms before the presidential election in October 2025.

They are concerned about the electoral process, especially the makeup of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) and the management of electoral procedures and documents.

On May 17, 2024, representatives from 14 entities met to discuss these issues and form a unified stance. They emphasize the importance of open and inclusive dialogue to ensure fair and peaceful elections. Critical points include ensuring the CEI’s independence, addressing electoral divisions, and reviewing certain aspects of the Constitution and Electoral Code.

The statement also highlights the current economic and social difficulties in Ivorian society, such as increasing electricity and food prices, and the effects of climate change. The organizations stand in solidarity with the affected populations and call for unity and cooperation to prevent electoral violence.

The declaration was signed by civil society groups and several political parties, including MGC (led by Mrs. Simone Gbagbo) and Pour Objectif République.
