In Côte d’Ivoire, a high-profile legal battle within the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire (PDCI) resumed on Thursday, pitting Valérie Yapo against party president Tidjane Thiam.
Yapo, a former party official, is challenging her expulsion from the PDCI and disputing Thiam’s legitimacy as party leader. She argues the decision to expel her was unauthorized and claims Thiam held French nationality at the time of his election—raising questions under the Ivorian nationality code.
Thiam’s legal team countered with documentation asserting he holds dual nationality by birth, and therefore remains eligible. The case has been adjourned to May 15th for oral pleadings.
