The International Organization for Migration Ghana, says it has assisted rescue over 400 migrants, many of them stranded at detention centers in Libya between March and December 2020.
This comes as the world observes International Migrants Day today. This year’s theme, Re-imagining Human Mobility focuses on the impact of the coronavirus on all nations as well as regular and irregular migration.
Speaking to WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson, International Organization for Migration Chief of Mission, Abibatou Wane-Fall noted that migration has not stopped due to the pandemic with agents exploiting would be migrants at this time.
While acknowledging that there are no clear figures on the number of Ghanaian migrants stranded, Ms. Wane-Fall said it is important to make conditions at home favourable in order to discourage irregular migration.
