Across African regions and countries hit by years of conflict, contrasting debates persist on the role of religion and religious leaders as a motivation.
Hence the relationship between religion, peace and conflict is a contentious and polarizing subject, attracting a wide array of arguments and opinions, often grounded in popular belief rather than empirical fact.
According to a report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), many conflicts throughout history have been attributed to religion.
IEP in analyzing 35 armed conflicts in 2013, said two-thirds or 86 percent, had among their main causes, opposition to a particular government, or opposition to the economic, ideological, political or social system of a state.
This edition of the programme, will find out whether governments or state authorities should implement policies to regulate religious discourse in tackling insecurity.
