Conflicts, old and new, along with the increasingly disastrous impacts of climate change, are driving a devastating rise in the number of forcibly displaced people across West Africa, particularly the Sahel region.
From Mali to Burkina Faso, Niger moving into Chad, Nigeria and neighbouring Cameroon, millions of people have been displaced, living lives deprived of almost all fundamental human rights and at the mercy of NGOs and philanthropists for their basic needs.
I am Abdullahi Hassan and welcome to IN THE SAHEL, WADR’s security sector and governance program which this season, delves into the heart of the African security crisis, telling the stories and strategies that shape the region’s response to pressing challenges.
Once again, welcome.
