Two girls were killed in Thion in the province of Gnagna, in eastern Burkina Faso, after the explosion of improvised explosive devices. Reports indicate that three people were also seriously injured during the explosion.
The victims, aged between 8 and 14, were riding a cart in search of water when it hit an improvised explosive device. Officials said all the injured were admitted to the CSPS in Diaka before being evacuated to the Medical Center with the surgical unit in Bogandé.
The security situation has deteriorated markedly in Burkina Faso since 2015.
The attacks recorded since that date in several regions of the country have caused numerous victims and thousands of internally displaced persons, while more than 40% of the territory is beyond state control, according to official figures.
