Military officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo said Sunday that gunmen killed a police officer and kidnapped five Chinese nationals working at a gold mine in the eastern region.
Major Dieudonne Kasereka spokesman for the regional army said at around 2 am, bandits in the village of Mukera the South Kivu province stormed the camp of the Chinese group.
While nine of the 14 Chinese nationals were safely evacuated, five were taken away by the attackers to an unknown destination, Kasereka said.
