The Guinean Secretary General of Press Professionals, Sékou Jamal Pendessa, was On Monday, sent to Conakry Central Prison following a lengthy day of hearings at the Dixinn Court of First Instance.
The court’s prosecutor accuses him of organizing an unauthorized demonstration and disseminating information likely to disrupt public order and national security.
The decision to detain Pendessa has been criticized by the Guinean Secretary General of Press Professionals (SPPG), which has declared its intention to stage another street demonstration on January 30.
The protest aims to demand the clearance of frequencies for certain private media outlets in the country and the restoration of the nation’s internet connection.
