The leaders of Guinea and Senegal signed a deal to reopen their land borders.
This comes after the land borders were closed last year, ahead of Guinea’s September elections. Alpha Conde, Guinea’s president, says that this was done for security reasons.
A signing ceremony was held on Saturday during the 59th ordinary session of the ECOWAS authority of heads of state in Accra, Ghana.
This is not the first meeting held to reopen the borders.
Though a breakthrough was reached, Guinea-Bissau’s borders with Guinea remain closed.
The presidents of both nations are said to have tense relations hence deal is yet to be agreed on.
