Senegalese opposition politician Ousmane Sonko is due in court today Thursday to resume hearings for a trial in the case of defamation filed against him by minister of tourism Mame Mbaye Niang.
Sonko 48, accused the minister of embezzlement.
On the eve of this hearing, he was denied any form of pass or movement by the defense and security forces who barricaded his home on Wednesday as seen in a circulated video on the social network.
The protest was to denounce the arbitrary arrests of political actors and the instrumentalization of justice against opponents,
Police yesterday evening dispersed his supporters with teargas as they approached his residence to lift the barricade installed while demonstrations in some of the 46 departments were banned.
Discussing the evolution of the matter is Mamadou Thior a Senegalese political analyst.
