A new report by humanitarian agencies says 28.6 million people faced acute food and nutrition insecurity between March and May 2023 in 13 countries.
This report is the first exercise of collaboration between the Global Network against food crises, the Food and security information network and the Permanent Interstate Committee for drought control in the Sahel and mirrors the 2023 and the regional focus for IGAD on East Africa.
The report noted that the number of forcibly displaced people reached 7.86 million by the end of 2022, while about 6.62 million were Internally Displaced Persons in the 5 countries most affected by conflicts in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger and Nigeria.
