The UN’s health agency says suicide remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide.
The World Health Organisation’s latest estimates, published on Thursday in “Suicide worldwide in 2019” show that more people die every year as a result of suicide than HIV, malaria or breast cancer.
According to the estimates, more than 700 000 people died by suicide in 2019, prompting WHO to produce new guidance to help countries improve suicide prevention and care.
