Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has firmly expressed his disapproval of homosexuality in Ghana.
Parliament in February this year passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021. The bill is however, yet to be signed into law by President Akufo-Addo, following a challenge at the Supreme Court against the Bill.
Addressing a large gathering of Muslims in Kumasi during Eid prayers, on Thursday Dr. Bawumia, speaking publicly on the contentious issue for the first time, emphasized his strong opposition to the practice.
As a devout Muslim, he stated his unequivocal stance against homosexuality and highlighted the alignment of his views with Ghana’s cultural values and the opposition to the practice by other religious groups, notably Christianity and Islam.
