The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has officially declared four parliamentary seats vacant, just two months ahead of the December elections.

This decision shifts the dynamics in Ghana’s previously hung parliament, where the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a slight majority with the backing of Independent MP Andrew Amoako Asiamah.

The balance now tips towards the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Following the ruling, the NDC will hold 136 seats, while the NPP will have 135. Previously, the NPP had 138 seats, and the NDC had 137. But the governing NPP is challenging the speaker’s ruling
