Ghana’s Parliament has summoned the Minister for National Security Kan Dapaah over the recent military brutalities in three communities in the Upper East Region.
Some residents of Garu, Tempane and Bugri recounted being whipped with wires, belts, wood, and other tools by soldiers who raided the areas on the dawn of Sunday, October 29, 2023.
The brutalities meted out were said to be in retaliation to a reported attack on some national security officers who had gone there on a mission to retrieve illicit firearms.
After days of silence on the matter despite public condemnation, Dapaah’s office insists that residents had opened fire on the security team.
