Ghana’s parliament Wednesday passed the controversial Narcotics Control Commission Amendment Bill 2023 – primarily authorizing the cultivation of industrial and medicinal cannabis.

In 2020, some countries in Africa through their national legislations decided to permit the cultivation and export of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes, with some other countries authorizing the use of cannabis for medical purposes.

As WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson in Accra reports, the hemp association of Ghana welcomes the passage of the bill.
