Ghana’s Electoral Commission has rescinded its initial decision to bar political party agents from observing the ongoing voter transfer exercise.
The Commission recently directed its Regional Directors not to permit agents of political parties to observe the exercise, in response to several clashes triggered by disagreements between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The initial measure was intended to maintain law and order during the process. However, the opposition NDC strongly opposed the move.
At a press briefing Tuesday evening, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Samuel Tettey, in charge of operations, announced that the EC reversed its decision to ensure transparency but cautioned agents against inciting trouble.
