There has been widespread condemnation for the chaos that characterized the voting into office of a speaker of parliament in Ghana. The sitting which took about 7 hours was characterized by an exchange of blows between the members of parliament elect, the invasion of the house by the military and the snatching of ballot papers by a parliamentarian belonging to the governing party.
With the country’s credentials as a beacon of democracy in the sub region greatly affected by the scenes in the house of legislature, many are expectant that the footage be reviewed and an enquiry launched to identify and sanction all perpetrators. WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson reports from Accra.
