The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has appealed to the Committee on Foreign Retail Trade to resume operations to close down shops belonging to undocumented foreign retailers.
This comes after the Nigerian Union of Traders Association in Ghana, (NUTAG), rejected the special dispensation granted to them by the government of Ghana, after diplomatic efforts were made by both the governments of Nigeria and Ghana.
On Monday, Ghana Traders association released a statement in response to the Nigerian Union Traders Association’s rejection, calling it inappropriate and an insult.
They then appealed to the Committee of Foreign Retail Trade to urgently shut down the undocumented foreigners’ shops.
In an effort to appeal the closure of shops, Nkem Tony Onyeagolu, the former President for All Nigerians Community- in the Ashanti Region, has appealed to President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, to issue a directive calling for the re-opening of shops owned by Nigerian traders.
According to him, the closure of their shops has greatly affected the community’s trading in the country.
