The United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) has appealed to the judiciary in Ghana to ensure that cases brought before it concerning the just-ended 2020 general elections are handled transparently and credibly such that its decisions fully reflect the will of the people.
This comes one week since the electoral commission declared President Nana Akufo-Addo winner of the Presidential poll.
Since the result announcement, there have been a series of demonstrations in parts of the country, mainly by supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress who say the election was rigged in favour of the incumbent.
With increased security presence due to the protests, Civil Society Organisations including the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) say the Police must respect the rights of these party supporters, adding that the opposition party should head to court over their grievances.
