The Ghana Police Service has disclosed that about Forty-Two (42) Democracy Hub demonstrators will be arraigned before court.

These 42 persons were detained by the police on Sunday, September 22, 2024, while participating in the Democracy Hub demonstrations in Accra.

During their protest at the 37 Intersection in Accra, the police accused them of participating in a number of unlawful activities for which reason they were arrested.

The protesters, who had gathered illegally at the 37 Intersection, were seen, according to the police, pushing down police crash barriers, obstructing traffic, causing unlawful damage, disturbing the peace, and attacking police officers as they carried out their official duties.

One of the protesters, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was captured on camera entering a police vehicle and taking out the ignition key before throwing it away.

According to the statement released by the police, these 42 suspects will be arraigned before the court while the others who are on the run, including the leader, Barker-Vormawor, are being hunted.

The protest intends to draw attention to key national issues such as galamsey, socio-economic injustice, unemployment, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption, and the need for judicial independence.
