The government of Ghana in a communique Tuesday, announced the date for the funeral of Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The presidency in a statement said the former president will lie in state for public viewing from 24 -to-26 January while the burial takes place on 27 January.
Former President Rawlings, died in November at the age of 73 at a hospital in Ghana’s capital – Accra.
The funeral was initially scheduled to take place before Christmas last year but disagreement among Ghanaian traditional leaders led to a postponement.
Rawlings –a political Icon in Ghana’s democratic journey, led the country for nearly two decades after staging two military coups in 1979 and 1981.
In 1992, Jerry Rawlings set Ghana on course, for a multiparty democracy.
