The first-ever UN ministerial peacekeeping meeting concluded with representation of more than 85 member countries in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
The meeting jointly organized by the United Nations and the government of Ghana, marks a milestone achievement for the Continent that largely depends on peacekeepers to secure populations in conflict areas.
The discussion focused on critical issues such as advancing sustainable peace, protection of civilians, strategic communication and improving the safety and mental well-being of peacekeepers.
However, members at the 2023 meeting, prioritised environmental management partnerships in peacekeeping.
Here’s an excerpt of the US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas Greenfield’s speech to the gathering.
