The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has affirmed that the political environment in Ghana remains “generally peaceful” as the country heads toward the December 7, 2024, general election.
In a press statement issued on November 18, 2024, CODEO stated that its Long-Term Observers (LTOs) monitoring 97 constituencies across the country reported no incidents of violence, intimidation, or harassment, particularly against women.
While commending improvements in voter education by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, CODEO noted continued political dominance by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with both parties presenting differing campaign focus areas.
The Coalition raised concerns over abuse of incumbency, including the use of public resources for campaign activities. CODEO has called on election stakeholders to intensify civic and voter education, discourage vote-buying, and maintain peaceful, issue-based campaigns.
The report underscores the importance of collaboration to ensure a credible, transparent, and violence-free election.
