Ghana’s Ministry of Interior has with immediate effect, deployed 200 police officers to serve as guards to Members of Parliament (MPs) till the end of the year. This comes under a week after a sitting legislator was shot dead in his car on his way home from a campaign program.
Since the incident, Parliamentarians have been agitating for state security, a call they have made for some time. The speaker of parliament subsequently ordered the Interior minister Ambrose Dery to brief the house on what preparations are being made for them.
Ambrose Dery addressed the press after the meeting.
